End of November 2019 I am standing at the airport of Berlin Schönefeld going to Rīga when I get a call from my mother. She tells me that after some weeks of suffering my grandmother has passed away. She was 93 years old and the last one to leave from the generation of my grandparents.

Even though I knew that her death would only be a matter of time I felt so deeply sad that I couldn't even process my feelings. After I boarded the plane I started working on the drumloop that you can hear on "Not Today". The song developed further on during my stay in Rīga. I even recorded the vocals in the kitchen of my apartment.

A few days later, while visiting Jūrmala, I find myself recording most of the atmospheric sounds that you can hear. It was a very cold but stunningly beautiful day and while I'm standing there watching the sun set over the ocean I suddenly get overwhelmed by all the grief inside me. In that moment - standing there crying, thinking of my grandparents and realising how fragile and short our lives are - I decided to bring out a record called "nāve", the Latvian word for "death".
